American Dreams in Havoc Heaven is a new collection of poems by L.A. based artist and curator Vanessa Matic. These poems don’t play nice. They move like smoke through a keyhole, slipping between fever dream and hard truth, where paradise and hell sit at the same table. Matic writes with fire and knowing, stripping love and violence, politics and religion down to the raw bone. Crowleyan riddles crack through the walls of doctrine, turning blind faith into something wilder, something that bleeds. This is poetry that doesn’t ask for belief—it dares you to see.

Vanessa Matic is a multitalented artist. Using writing as a link between mediums, she has been active in New York’s underground and Berlin’s avant-garde, creating poetry visuals all along the way. For years her work has circulated in American and European literary magazines. Her debut collection of poems, Romance & Revolution, announced her as a true poetic force. Matic has also spent years curating spaces for other artists to gather. As founder of Agape Lodge Poetry Society in Los Angeles, she continues to shape a movement, where poetry is not only written, it is lived.
